Mondays, July 10 and 24: Evening Writers Unlimited Meetings in Angels Camp at MAE from 6:00-9:00 pm. Share work, prose and poetry, and all genres and levels, with kind writers. Thursdays, July 6, 13, 20, 27 from 11 am–noon. TWAIN TALKS with Jim Fletcher, historian and author of Mark Twain’s 88 Days in the Mother Lode, who shares historical information about Mark Twain’s life, particularly the short time that Twain spent in the Mother Lode. FREE.
Wednesday, July 19, 2017: Cristi Canepa’s photography class “Camera Works: Exposure and Composition” from 6:30 to 8pm. $25 cost covers all class materials. Participants bring their own camera, and the class covers tips on improving photo compositions and the exposure triangle of aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. Friday, July 21, 2017: “Sip N’ Paint with Artist Mary Sexton” from 6 to 9:30 pm. $45 cost covers all painting materials and complimentary wine. Participants enjoy a relaxing atmosphere in a group setting where painting is an activity whose focus allows stress to disappear and worries to fade. Monday and Wednesday, July 24 and 26 – Children’s Music Workshop, ages 7-12, with Chrystine Mollett at MAE. 9-11 AM. $15 for both days. Parents welcome to attend. Explore a variety of instruments, vocalization, basics of music, and more.
Tuesday, August 8, 15, 22, 29 – Voices of Wisdom, Preserving the Stories of Our Elders, is a free monthly writing class series designed for 55-plus seniors, starting Tuesday, August 8, from 9-11 am at Oak Shadows Mobile Home Community clubhouse in San Andreas. The month-long class dates are as follows: Aug 8, 15, 22, and 29. Participants take all four sessions toward a finished essay or short story. The writing program is made possible by a grant from the Calaveras Community Foundation. The writing class will meet once-a-week in 4 writing sessions a month with one instructor, including instruction on memoir and digging for hidden stories from the past. Each month, another location and instructor will give an opportunity for new participants to write their stories. Instructors and assistants in each session will mentor students toward creating a finished writing product for publication in March, if the participant wishes. Saturday, September 16 – Annual Arts Harvest Dinner Dance fundraiser held at the Pickle Patch in San Andreas with music by popular band Mumbo Gumbo. Tickets $45 online– This event will sell out, so get your ticket early! Ticket prices are the same as last year. Silent auction includes Tahoe cabin getaway and other fantastic items to bid on.
