Featured artist for August and September: Patty Payne, of Sheep Ranch, CA – Specialty, bovine and equestrian art, large canvases, custom fence-wood frames, and more.

Saturday, August 19 – 4-6 pm. Free Public Reception. Featured artist Patty Payne – with bovine and equestrian art specialties, Patty is at home in realistic as well as abstract art work, painting on large canvases or wood, with rustic, wood, natural frames made by husband Don Payne from field fencing, window frames, cedar, and other natural woods. FREE reception.

Mondays, August 7 and 21:  Daytime Writers Unlimited Meetings in Angels Camp at MAE from 9-11:30 am. Writing exercise and sharing plus manuscript feedback with fellow writers. Craft sharing, resources, editing by colleagues all available. Join the group – 18 & over. $35 annual membership began June 1, 2017.

Mondays, August 14 and 28: Evening Writers Unlimited Meetings in Angels Camp at MAE from 6:00-9:00 pm. Share work, prose and poetry, and all genres and levels, with kind writers. Craft exchange, resources, editing by colleagues all available. Sign up to be a Member – 18 & over. $35 annual membership began June 1, 2017.

Thursdays, August 3, 17, and 31 from 11 am–noon. TWAIN TALKS with Jim Fletcher, historian and author of Mark Twain’s 88 Days in the Mother Lode, who shares historical information about Mark Twain’s life, particularly the short time that Twain spent in the Mother Lode. FREE.   This is the last month Jim will give weekly talks. He will continue to give Twain Talks lectures for ongoing special events, such as the Wild West Fest in October.   

Tuesday, August 8, 15, 17, 22 – Voices of Wisdom, Preserving the Stories of Our Elders, is a free monthly writing class series designed for 55-plus seniors, starting Tuesday, August 8, from 9-11 am at Oak Shadows Mobile Home Community clubhouse in San Andreas. People take all four sessions and write toward a finished essay or memoir. The writing program is made possible by a grant from the Calaveras Community Foundation. Friday, August 18 from 6 to 9:30 pm.: “Sip ‘N Paint with Artist Mary Sexton” $45 cost covers all painting materials and complimentary wine. Participants enjoy a relaxing atmosphere in a group setting where painting is an activity whose focus allows stress to disappear and worries to fade. Sunday, August 27, 2017, 4:30-6 pm: Cristi Canepa’s photography class “Advance Your Photography” $25 cost covers all class materials. Participants bring their own camera, and the class covers tips on improving photo compositions and the exposure triangle of aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. Due to this subject’s popularity, spaces in the class will fill quickly.
